Jake's has a nautical charm that makes it a pleasant place to dine. Situated right on Steamboat Pier, it has a water view from most tables. The wall is windowed from floor to ceiling to add light to the dimly lit rooms. The rooms are done in a pleasing shade of blue with fish suspended from the ceiling and lobster traps and buoys used for decoration. Even the ladies room is tastefully done in a fish motif! Unfortunately, the night we were there it was bitterly cold outside and this fact may have detracted somewhat from our overall appreciation of the restaurant. We will return in nicer weather when we can better appreciate its view and, perhaps, the food.
*** We have made a second trip to Jake's because we liked what we saw the first time and wanted to give the food another try. The restaurant has a nice "feel" to it. It is cheerful and exceptionally clean. This time we were here at the beginning of the season in lovely weather. We got a chance to study and appreciate some of the nautical memorabilia on the walls.
RESTAURANT: JAKE'S SEAFOODS
RESTAURANT Steamboat Pier, Nantasket, MA DATE: October 22, 1999, May 25,
2002 MEAL: Dinner BREAD: Warm rolls served in a large basket that made the two
small rolls look a little lost Excellent hot
rolls SALAD: APPETIZER: ENTREE: Bouillabaisse ($19.95) very good - a reasonable sized
portion with a thick tomato soup base, cole slaw served in a
small plastic container and two large pieces of garlic
bread Scallops with a Crabmeat Stuffing ($15.95) fairly good
- the scallops were plentiful but the stuffing was not to
our liking. It had a fishy taste that probably came from the
scallop juices permeating it. The top of the stuffing was
slightly blackened from overcooking. It had a spice in it
that was not to our liking (sage?), served with a nicely
cooked baked potato Mini Seafood Sampler ($10.95
plus $.50 to substitute onion rings for French fries) Very
Good. Clams were delicate and tasty (We don't like the huge
ones that are often served at other establishments). A good
sized portion. The coating was a bit heavy, but a nice
presentation anyway. We prefer onion rings that are not cut
as thickly, but they were done well. Good sized portion of
cole slaw. DESSERT: OTHER: Restaurant closes on October 31st for the
season Paper place mats with menu suggestions Easy parking in their lot Plenty of wait
staff Wait staff was friendly,
helpful, and efficient OVERALL: B A- We really like it here. The food
is good and the overall experience is relaxing and peaceful.
The prices for seafood are reasonable too.
