Thomas likes Mexican restaurants that have menu items without too much starch and Wendy doesn't like Mexican food much at all. When Wendy's mother suggested we try Santa Fe we were not too enthusiastic, but we were wrong. This is one of the nicest Mexican cuisines that we have tried. The ambiance is cheerful and sophisticated. The decor is modern with peach colored walls adorned with tapestries. Several quiet dining areas have tables with a pepper mill and a glass container with a candle sitting on beige tablecloths. This restaurant is not a little Mexican cantina, but rather, an upscale Mexican restaurant.
RESTAURANT: SANTA FE 72 West 69th Street, New York,
NY DATE: December 2002 MEAL: Lunch BREAD: SALAD: APPETIZER: Salsa and tostitoes accompany
the meal. The salsa is highly spiced. Black Bean Soup - More of a
puree. Traditional taste with a hint of spice and a dollop
of sour cream. Very good. ENTREE: Chimichanga - Very Good. Came
with rice (green and red pepper pieces)that was shaped in a
mold and a small side salad with very good
dressing. Santa Fe Salad - Excellent - A
large salad comprised of many different salad greens,
carrots, cheddar cheese, sprouts, mushrooms, egg, avocado,
radishes, cucumber, roasted red pepper. The salad dressing
was "understated" (Tom) and had more oil than
vinegar. Mexican Pizza - an appetizer
eaten as a meal. A tortilla with cheese, tomato, jalapeno,
and sauce. Very good. DESSERT: Chocolate Truffle Cake - Superb!
