WENDY AND TOM DINE OUT

Tony's is celebrating its 37th year of business and that's pretty good for a clam shop! It is located at Wollaston Beach right across from the water and it serves good food. What else could anyone ask for?!! According to its flyer, the Phantom Gourmet called it "A hidden jewel" and Quincy Business News rated it "A five plate award for excellence." We aren't sure that we want to get ecstatic over the place, but it was a fun experience. One of the aspects of the restaurant that we enjoyed was its cleanliness. The decor is "modern porch" with white metal chairs and thin blue seat cushions and backs. The front wall of the restaurant is glass so that there is a nice view of the water and plenty of light. There is outside seating on the real porch. Food is ordered at the counter and picked up when the patron's number is called. Paper plates and "plasticware" are used. Of the several restaurants along the beach area, we like this one the best.

Dinner

BREAD:

SALAD:

APPETIZER:

Clam Chowder (Small $3.25) Excellent. The way we like it, thick, creamy, and full of clams and not too many potatoes.

ENTREE:

Fried Lobster Plate ($16.95) Excellent - The batter was light and did not interfere with the delicate taste of the lobster. Cole slaw was very creamy and the portion was large. French fries had the skins left on and were very good and crispy without being oily.

Seafood Plate ($15.95 included calamari) Excellent - This plate can be ordered with extra clams (strip or bellies) or with calamari. "The crunchy batter complimented the items and didn't overwhelm them." - T. Birchmire

Maybe this restaurant should be an A-. It is hard to do too much better with a beach front clam shop! Compared to other seafood eateries of its kind, it rates fairly high.
